Spring Term Roundup
The Spring Term has flown by and brought new developments at Eishinjuku. Senior members have added to their coaching credentials with more Safeguarding and First Aid training and Elle and James have done a fantastic job whilst I have been unavailable over the last couple of weeks. We have a lot of new beginners at the moment which is very encouraging and existing members are doing very well. I'm pleased to report that I passed 2nd Dan Jodo which means that our efforts to create a Jodo Club from scratch continue to be rewarded. We were delighted to be able to train with Ozawa Sensei at his Seminar in Ollerton. Elle took a silver medal in the 2nd/3rd dan kata competition and I took a gold in the 4th/5th dan kata competition. These small successes are useful reminders that we continue to move in the right direction. I am most proud of the contribution that dojo members made to the running of the seminar, the fighting spirit that everyone showed and continuing spirit of friendship that surrounds all our activities. In this we are shown the way by Ozawa Sensei and the other Senseis who continue to be so generous in investing time in us. Special thanks go to Kashi no ki kenyukai and Trevor Chapman in particular for their efforts. Rob Wix

Christmas is just around the corner. Our last practice at Wollaton is 13th December. We hope to have a kata practice at Rushcliffe on 20th December. We are pleased to have several new members in recent weeks and I'm particularly pleased that Elle and James have been joining me at National Squad training and have put up a good show. I would like to extend Seasonal Greetings to all and hope that 2012 is as exciting as 2011 has been. First practice at Wollaton is planned for 10th January but please watch this space. Extra kata practices may be arranged so please conact me through the web form if you are not on our mailing list. Rob

New Term
The summer has almost finished and we will be ready to restart on 13th September. Congratulations to Elle and James who passed Shodan Jodo recently. All are welcome to begin Jodo. It's not necessary to study Kendo as well. We are all excited about moving the dojo forward during the coming year.

End of term round up
Time has flown by and we come to the final practice on 19th July before we break for the summer. Jodo will continue as normal and there may be extra kata practice. Otherwise please visit Ollerton where possible. The last few months have been very interesting with everyone making good progress. We took on the GB team at the London Cup and made it out of the pools. We were all proud of the people who graded recently for setting a high standard. It was very pleasing to practice kendo and kenjutsu with Ozawa Sensei during his recent visit. Thanks to all the seniors for their continued support. Special congratulations go to Elle for being the first Eishinjuku student to pass second dan. This is a remarkable achievement given the length of time that she has been training. When we return in September we will renew our efforts to improve our practice and develop our dojo. Best wishes to all.

May Update
Special thanks again to those of you that raised money at the 1000 suburi event this weekend. Well done. I'm really pleased with the progress that club members are making in their training. Extra well done to those who are visiting Ollerton for extra practice. Our new jodo members are doing well for such a short amount of practice time and the juniors are looking much more confident. Keep up the good work. Please remember the Dojo will be closed on May 31st as its half term week.

Thanks to all members who have contributed in some way to the fund-raising efforts for the Japanese Tsunami relief efforts. Whilst it is a difficult time for all our friends in Japan it is a timely reminder to make the best use of the time that we have. I'm excited to announce that we are now able to take new members for dedicated Jodo practice. We are also approved for Iaido practice but this will only be an occasional activity at present. The aim of introducing both arts is to strengthen our practice and to improve our understanding of the use of the sword. Please be aware that the Dojo will be closed during the school holidays on 19th and 26th April.

More good news
Congratulations go to Rob, Trevor, Kyle and Jamal for their successes at todays grading. Today represents another first for Eishinjuku as it was the first time that juniors from our club have graded. I was very proud to see them do so well considering the length of time that they have been practicing. I was delighted to see James and Jim playing an active part in making the grading run smoothly. Thanks to all concerned but especially to Kashi no ki kenyu kai for hosting the event, Steve Plimbley for leading the panel and most importantly those parents who continue to support the dojo.

Thanks to all members who attended sessions with Tashiro Sensei. It's really important to be around high level teachers as much as possible. Whilst small teaching points can be picked up in many situations, there is so much more to be found by exposure to true Sensei. I have been proud as always by the way dojo members conducted themselves and I think that they have made an impression on Tashiro Sensei. Thanks to those UK Sensei and Dojos who have made his visit possible. We continue to learn from their example and desire to keep kendo in the Midlands moving forward.

Elle, James and Rob passed ikkyu at the Darlington grading. Latest successes
Another great start for Eishinjuku Kendo. The new format practices are proving popular with dedicated beginner/basics practices until 8:00 and senior practice until 8:40. We have new junior members which is encouraging for the future. Elle won the Fighting Spirit award at the Northern Open recently and guest member Kazu won the National Open. Congratulations also go to Jim and Taka for passing 2nd Dan at the recent London grading. Behind the scenes Elle, James and myself have been working on our jodo ready to start holding open practices soon. Overall an exciting time at the dojo. We hope to see you down there soon.

End of Year Roundup
Thanks to everyone who made our second year so successful. Elle and James passed shodan and deserve our congratulations. Elle is our first club shodan and James has come a long way from his early days at Doyukai. We were delighted to take part in the London Cup which was a great experience. Most importantly this year marks a change from a dojo which has been led to one which is driven by the enthusiasm and commitment of the members. I'm excited to announce that one consequence of this is that Eishinjuku has been endorsed by the Jodo Bu of the British Kendo Association to begin practice of Jodo. Provisional arrangements are to train at Rushcliffe Arena on Sundays from 6:30 until 8:00. Watch this space. Finally congratulations go to Ozawa Sensei who passed 8th dan this year and continues to be an example to us all. I'm looking forward to formal sessions restarting in September. Details to follow. Best wishes to all.

March Update
We are well in to the year now with more enquiries from potential members than ever. If you have been thinking of joining for a while, now would be a good time to take that first step with other new faces in the dojo. Eishinjuku took another step forward at the weekend as Morgan and Elle were the first dojo members to take part in the Kyusha Taikai. They did the club proud as always and had a good day out. If you haven't applied for the Ozawa Seminar yet please make your bookings soon as the course is filling up.

Hello all and welcome back. First practice of the year is Tuesday 5th January. Hall available from 6:30, formal start as usual at 7:00. Please note no practice on 2nd February and 2nd March due to events on in school. Please check that you have made your booking for the Ozawa Seminar, its important to get your application in early. Finally a plea-if you leave a contact number for me please say it twice. I've had a couple of enquiries where I have been unable to decipher the number from the message on my voicemail. Last year was another exciting year, I'm sure this year will be even better. Gambatte!

Last practice
Last practice of the year is 15th December. Please note the new informal practice starts at 6:3o with a formal start at 7:00. I will be trying to pass on what I learnt at the Iwatate/Hayashi seminar at the weekend. Please note that session fees have risen to £6 for Seniors and £4 for juniors and students. The change has become necessary due to the hall fees doubling. We will keep the prices for beginner's packs as quoted but anyone who hasn't been in touch yet will have to pay the new rate of £70 for the adult pack or £50 for the junior pack. Thanks for your understanding. Merry Christmas to all.

The club reached another series of milestones. Our first junior member has signed up, we had out first lady entering the Mumeishi Ladies competition and we entered our first teams into the Mumeishi 3's! Everyone performed really well and did credit to the club. The only competition we missed this year was the London Cup. Next year we will aim to be in everything! We've had several enquiries about juniors starting recently. Its quite daunting to be the first junior at the club so we propose to have a special introductory session for juniors when we have enough interest. We will also be amending the beginner's package to make it more affordable for juniors. Please use the contact section to register an interest (no commitment) and watch this space!!

Well done and thank you to all who attended the last session before the summer. Special thank you to Matsumoto Sensei for his input and also to those visiting the dojo for the evening. Please remember Sensei's advice. Congratulations to Chris, Michael, Adam and Morgan for their grading success. They did extremely well and set the standard for future gradings at Eishinjuku. Their performance was a fair reflection of the hard work that they have put in and the teamwork that is a characteristic of the dojo. To quote Chapman Sensei: "Congratulations, now it gets harder!" Special thanks to Steve Plimbley and Alan Thompson for staying to complete the grading panel.
